LIVE SESSION BY BLIQUE AMANI SMITH
Amani Smith is a Stockholm-based songwriter and singer. Her music doesn’t seek answers; instead, it explores, twists, and turns the things that rub us the wrong way. With a voice that carries both strength and fragility, she steps onto the Swedish music scene with her debut single “Svårt,” a low-key yet spot-on portrayal of the conditions of intimacy. The expression is direct, without embellishment—no grand gestures, just what needs to be said.
She began writing alone at a piano in an empty school auditorium. There was no plan, just a need. It wasn’t until someone from outside suggested she should pursue it seriously that the idea of a career as an artist began to take shape. For Amani, music is still more of a process than a project—a way to understand both herself and her surroundings.
The songs often start with a single line that sticks and is allowed to develop. That’s how “Stockholm är för stort” came to be, for example, where those very words served as the starting point for the entire song.
In the spring of 2026, the debut EP “I Hold My Heart in My Hand” will be released, marking a cohesive first impression. A series of autobiographical songs that cut close to the bone, where each track is a fragment of experiences and emotions. With influences ranging from Keyshia Cole’s emotional intensity to Radiohead’s melancholic darkness, Amani moves between R&B soul and alternative pop, but it’s not the genres that matter—it’s the feeling.
Amani describes herself as almost uncomfortably honest. She avoids sugarcoating things in life as well as in her music. It is in the unfiltered and unvarnished that she feels most at home. Her sound is contemporary yet carries a timeless quality, as if her voice had always been there, waiting for the right moment to be heard.
What began in a quiet room has slowly grown into something bigger. But the foundation remains the same: writing about what feels real. Even when it hurts. Perhaps especially then.
