Byråkrat was created and is run by Martin Roos, former guitarist and manager of the Swedish pop group Kent. The project was born from the idea of creating functional and instrumental music for the office. Or, if you will, Muzak for the lonely bureaucrat.

Their self-titled debut album, *Byråkrat*, was released in 2018. Jan Gradvall of *Dagens Industri* described the music as instrumental, guitar-driven, evocative, and beautiful, marked by a raincloud-gray melancholy. The follow-up, Tillit, arrived in 2019 and was released on cassette, vinyl, and digitally. Later that same year, an instrumental interpretation of Joy Division’s “Shadowplay” was also released.

The third album, *Möte*, was created between December 2019 and December 2020.

Byråkrat’s latest album, *Bar*, was largely written and recorded in collaboration with Mattias Axelsson, former guitarist, songwriter, and singer for Superswirls and The Horror The Horror. Work on Bar spanned two years, and the album was recorded at various locations across Sweden, from the archipelago to Martin’s home studio in Eskilstuna. Here, one can sense new influences such as Madchester and krautrock.

On stage, Martin is joined by Mattias Axelsson on guitar and Heikki Kiviaho from Sator on bass. Since its inception in 2018, Byråkrat has performed over 60 shows in Sweden and one in New York.
